Help the Phoenix Theatre weather a rent increase

Tax deductible
Hello friends and theatre lovers!!

I'm a huge fan of The Phoenix Arts Association Theatre and the important role that they play in the Bay Area theatre ecosystem. I'm writing this today because for the FIRST time in their 34 year history, The Phoenix Theatre is reaching out to the community for support. Rents in San Francisco are crazy. We all know that. And the Phoenix has been incredibly resourceful in facing that challenge. Two years ago the City of San Francisco granted the The Phoenix Arts Association Theatre with Legacy Business status (much deserved!!). The Legacy status made it possible for the landlord to receive a rental subsidy on behalf of the Phoenix. That’s the good news. However, even with the subsidy, the rent in their newest lease agreement has now more than TRIPLED. The folks at the Phoenix see this as a temporary challenge and plan to renew the Phoenix Theatre's own production history of new works by Bay Area playwrights and actors, increasing the number of shows they produce each year in both theatre spaces; in addition to implementing a development / fundraising strategy to meet their new rental obligations. Rather than passing on a dramatic spike in rental rates to theatre companies that are also struggling to make ends meet, the Phoenix is seeking monetary assistance so that they can continue providing both venues at affordable rates to the Bay Area theatre community where so many nomadic companies and theatre artists have been able to share their work. If spaces like the Phoenix lose their footing in San Francisco due to the real estate crisis, a new generation of young artists will not have the kind of affordable space to create new work and that would be a huge loss to the Bay Area theatre community. Any donation no matter how small or large to their non-profit 501 (c) 3 is tax deductible and greatly appreciated. THANK YOU!

The Phoenix Theatre is estimating they need $18,000 in support for the next three months of transition:

Anything you want to contribute is so appreciated.  Rent is due October 1st, so we're shooting for having extra funds in the bank by then. Anything raised above this goal will be put directly toward a slush fund in anticipation of 2020's 3% rental increase.

Please feel free to share this fundraiser with anyone (far and wide!!)  who you think might be interested in learning about this campaign.

Thanks again!!
