Help the Mills during Kit’s Leukaemia treatment

Kit Charlie Mills, or Prince Kit as he is fondly known to his family, has been diagnosed with Leukaemia, specifically B Cell Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia.

On July 31st, after a few days of being unwell with a high fever and slight cough, his parents, Hannah and Ben took him to the emergency room. They waited 8 hours in the emergency room before finally being seen at 3am. On Monday morning an astute doctor elected to take a blood test. The blood test returned an abnormality that was concerning enough to warrant further investigation and a bone marrow biopsy was recommended. Every parent’s worst nightmare started becoming Hannah and Ben’s reality on that day.

On Tuesday 1st August 2022 their little man was taken to theatre for the bone marrow biopsy, which later that day confirmed the diagnosis.

Life changed for the Mills family this week. On Thursday 4th August Kit began his two year treatment plan. Kit was again taken to theatre for a lumbar puncture, siting of a central line (portacath - his “special chest button”) and a nasogastric tube for drug administration because these products taste really yucky.

For Kit to now endure a tortuous treatment regime for two years at only 3 years old, for his mummy and daddy having their hearts torn out watching little Kit’s little body be poked and prodded and now filled with toxic chemicals and for Kit’s big sister, Eden, who has had her world torn apart overnight, having to try and understand what is happening to her little brother and that life for her has become a juggling act of tag-team parenting, grand-parenting and extended family providing for her whilst mummy and daddy focus on Kit.

We, as their family, wish to relieve the physical and financial burdens they now face throughout Kit’s extensive medical treatment. Hannah will be unable to work for an Indefinite period of time. At present neither Han or Ben are mentally and emotionally able to even contemplate a return to the workplace.
