Help the McKibbin Cats Find a Home

Donation protected

Hi there - in case you haven't been following the saga of the two homeless cats on McKibbin Street in East Williamsburg Brooklyn via my Instagram stories, let me give you a little background info!

I started walking down McKibbin Street regularly, after I first noticed the two homeless cats hanging out there back in February.  The two cats sadly spend their days hanging out in a dirty, church parking lot, and the neighboring community garden.  I started carrying cans of food and water on me every time I go out, so that I can provide them with food and water if I didn't see any traces that they'd had a meal already, or if the water was dirty.

I was happy to find out they do have a regular feeder - a lovely woman named Vivian, whom I ran into one day when I was checking on them.  She's been feeding them twice a day, for the last 6-7 years!  She told me that the colony use to have five cats, but now it's down two just these two - both female, and thankfully both spayed (thanks to her efforts)!

Vivian had all five cats spayed when she first started feeding them, and both of the remaining girls have the tell-tale ear clip to signify this.  I was relieved to find out at least there would be no kittens!  However, the concerning part is that the cats do NOT have a shelter... they hide under cars, or somewhere else during inclement weather.

I hung a sign on the community garden, requesting to buy a nice shelter and place it there, however, they were not OK with this - in fact, my sign was ripped down. Their regular feeder also once had a shelter placed in the church parking lot, with the blessing of the pastor, but someone dismantled it and threw it out after a few days.

It breaks my heart to know these cats are still on the street - especially since the one pictured above is very friendly and likes to be pet.  I was recently informed by their feeder, that both girls are FeLV positive.

Over the last few months, I have been in contact with several local resues/TNR operations, to see if I could get these girls vetted and possibly homed.  I do not want them to continue living such hard lives out on the dirty streets of Brooklyn, exposed to weather and to unsavory humans who might happen upon them.  All animals deserve to have a safe and loving home.

Being that it is currently "kitten season" here in NYC, all of the rescues I reached out to are swamped, helping to rescue pregnant cats and litters of babies born on the streets, as well as urgent-need cases, like injured and very sick strays.  It's taken me a couple of months, but I finally found an organization willing to help.

Greenpoint Cats (IG:  greenpoint_cats) a local rescue organization, has agreed to assist with helping get these two girls off the street, by offering their vet discount, helping to live-trap the less friendly of the two (one cat can be handled by her regular feeder), and by helping to find foster homes once they've been fully vetted.

This is where you, and the local community come in - we are trying to raise funds to cover both cats' vet bill when the time comes.  Given the rescue-discount, it should not be too high (I hope), but both cats are FeLV positive, and we suspect the one with the mangy fur may have ringworm and possibly dental issues.

Any leftover money will be donated towards Greenpoint Cats, to be used toward the vet bills/supplies of any other rescues or cats in need.

Myself, and their regular feeder will be contributing some funds, but any little bit helps - I will be posting another sign with the GoFundMe information, in the hopes that the other people I have encountered who care about these cats will also contribute!  Who knows... maybe even the guys in charge of the parking lot and community garden (who seem to hate having these cats hanging around) will be willing to contribute, if it means these cats are no longer on their premises.
