Help the McGees help foster kids
Last week, Cole and Valerie received news that four children, 3 of which attend the school where Valerie teaches, had to be removed from their home and were in desperate need of care. Unfortunately, there are not enough foster families in Johnson County to meet the needs for foster children, so these four children between the ages of 4 and 9 were going to be placed indefinitely at the KVC offices to sleep on cots with foster children much older than them. Rather than allow that to happen, Cole and Valerie stepped in despite not yet being certified foster parents. The state of Kansas allows teachers to act as next of kin, so these four kids are now living with Cole and Valerie for the foreseeable future.
Since they are not officially foster parents, they are not receiving a stipend to help offset the costs of taking care of four children. Those of you with children understand the problems this presents. As a youth pastor and school teacher, their incomes do not provide as much as they would like for these kids, and will force them to get creative with their budget until they are able to complete the foster care training and receive a stipend from KVC.
With Christmas approaching, and the cost of feeding four children, I'm asking for your help on their behalf. Please help offset their unexpected costs by donating what you can. Cole and Valerie don't know anything about this, and I would prefer to keep it that way. I'm hoping to raise $1500 by Christmas so that I can surprise them with it a few days in advance. I know that this is a big ask, but you all have come through in the past, and I'm hopeful that you will do so again. This will go a long way towards providing a safe place for these kids, and help Cole and Valerie shoulder the financial burden that comes with doing the right thing. Just a little can go a long way, so please consider making even just a small donation. You have no idea what this will mean to them.
