Help the Makowski Family!

Phil Makowski passed away on November 10, 2018. His wife Teresa is overwhelmed with gratitude for all of the donations and love. A fund has been set up for their 4 children and the family has requested donations be made to the Makowski Children's Fund C/O People's United Bank 135 West Broadway, Port Jefferson, NY 11777 Attn: Michelle Cruz. In Spring 2017, Phil Makowski, owner at Mac Marine, was diagnosed with cancer- Adenocarcinoma, Signet Ring Cell- throughout his abdomen.    Phil, his wife Teresa (Hughes-Makowski), their four children and their employees worked together to keep the business rolling throughout the 2017 season and Phil began chemotherapy- barely slowing down even on his worst days. In Winter 2018 he had surgery to remove the cancer and reroute his digestive track. The surgery was successful, but the Drs said that the cancer would likely come back. Unfortunately this has happened sooner than anyone was prepared for.  Teresa works as a Teaching Assistant in a special education school for the family's health insurance and has been working with Phil keeping Mac Marine running.  Once again the family will come together to keep things running smoothly and Phil expects to be spending time at his beloved shop as they prepare to store boats for the winter.  If you know Teresa and Phil personally, you know that they are some of the most generous and loving people you will ever meet. They took in her godson's children from foster care for 1 1/2 years, and are the first to volunteer to help friends and family in need. Teresa has participated and run many fundraisers with Zumba as an instructor, and has volunteered to help childhood cancer fundraisers even when her own life was challenging. Now they need assistance. Phil Just came home from Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center and is receiving hospice care.  Teresa and her children want to spend their time showering Phil with love and supporting each other at this difficult time.
