My name is Rachel and I'd like to explain why I started a gofundme. My family and I are currently going through a hard time.
On November 1st I heard from my mom that my dad attempted suicide. My mom and brother and I live in Portland and we wanted to go visit him in the hospital in Reno. My mom had been on partial leave from her work and I am on disability for ulcerative colitis so we didn't have enough to buy tickets the same day. I opened a new credit card and was able to buy plane tickets for all of us to visit him in the hospital. We all said our goodbyes and the next day he was pronounced brain dead.
We made arrangements to have the funeral service on December 2nd in Reno. Again, we didn't have enough funds so I used my credit card to buy plane tickets. My dad's best friend Rick who works at a funeral home was generous enough to cover the cost of the service.
On December 1st, the day my mom returned to work, and the day before the service, she was fired. Her supervisor knew she was attending a funeral the next day. This is why I started this gofundme.
She is looking for work and is hoping that she is offered a consulting job but it wouldn't be until January at the soonest. Including the costs for mortgage payments, internet bills, car payments, and the basic costs of food and medications, she needs at least 4,000 per month. We are hoping to reach an amount that will help us all for a few months. My dad left me and my brother some funds but it could take up to 6 months for the whole process to be set up and go through. Until then we have been scraping by all while dealing with the grief of this loss.
Any amount is incredibly kind and appreciated and will go toward basic food and bills for me and my family. Thank you so much.
