Help The Lads represent the UK at VEX Worlds

Donation protected
Help The Lads, Team 8346A, from St Helena School, Colchester represent Essex and the UK at the world's most prestigious robotics event - the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship presented by Northrop Grumman Foundation in Dallas, Texas, from 5-7 May 2022.

This secondary school duo amazed a panel of six judges, taking the top spot for exemplary engineering at the VEX Worlds qualifying tournament held at Haberdashers' Boys' School in Elstree on Saturday, 5 March. VEX Robotics UK presented Seb and Damian with the esteemed Design Award for comprehensive robot construction, programming, and strategy documentation.

The VEX Robotics Competition is a global robotics programme targeting secondary schools and collegiate groups, engaging them with the vast STEM (science, technology, engineering, and maths) fields with a new competitive challenge every season. Each participating country sends a select few of their premier teams to compete at the world’s largest annual celebration of robotics and STEM - and this year, The Lads made the cut.

This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity - it's time to put Colchester on the map.

So what's the plan?

To represent Colchester, Essex, and the UK, Seb and Damian are working on crowdfunding £4,000 to cover the expenses; we welcome all support with our endless gratitude, and we will provide frequent updates on our progress.

Where's the money going?

  • Registration fees ($1200)
  • Robot transportation
  • ...and human transportation, too
  • Hotels and accomodation
  • Food and drink
  • Team wear

We will invest additional money into STEM offerings at St Helena School. Without a formal budget, STEM opportunities for students are funded by voluntary contributions and non-school-uniform days only.

The deadline for the initial registration fees are 26 March.
