The Ivey’s Road to Recovery
I’m posting this because I know my parents would never. . .
As most of you know my dad had a stroke, early Thursday morning. He’s been bed ridden since arriving at the ER and being moved to the ICU. He’s able to move all his extremities and eat/drink with no problem. His speech is still a little slurred and his vision is blurry. He has been receiving heparin to dissolve the current clot and prevent anymore from occurring.
As of today 8/7/21, the plan is to wean him off the heparin onto something less potent. The doctor has also placed an order for physical therapy to start today. This will be my dads first attempt at standing and walking since the stroke occurred.
The date of him being released is not set in stone because it is all dependent on how he does with PT. However, once he’s released it will be a difficult road to full recovery. He will have to complete roughly 15 hours a week of therapy for an extended period of time. Due to this, he will be out of work on short term disability for quite some time.
All of this will create a financial burden on my parents. So, I’m asking (not them) if you could give something to make their road to recovery a little easier. And trust me when I say this, my dad wants to get back to work ASAP. On admittance into the ER, he was mad that he messed up his perfect attendance and had to miss his middle school football practice. I believe he was at 82 straight months!
