<div>In the early morning of Thursday, August 8, 2024, my parents, Phil and Pam Hawley, and my grandmother, Rudean Hawley, were woken up a few minutes before 3AM by a very strong tornado which went directly through both of their homes, both situated next to each other in Lucama, North Carolina. The tornado was a result of the first band of Tropical Storm Debby, and it shifted my parents home off of its foundation, ripping holes into the walls and roof of the house, and also tore the roof clear off of my grandmother's house, taking down large pine trees as well.

<div>My grandmother and mother came out of the tragedy unscathed, while my father sliced an artery in his arm as a result of the flying debris. He is currently awaiting surgery.
