Sometimes faith is the only thing one has to rely on. That cannot ring more true for the Goodbred family. At 5am on Saturday, March 17th, 2018 their home caught on fire. The family of 8 lost everything they own in split seconds.

Mother to 6, Dory  Judd-Goodbred awoke to the smell of something burning.  She woke her husband and father to their children, Zac Goodbred, and told him to get the kids out. 4 of the 6 kids were home sleeping while the fire spread. Due to quick thinking, and heroic action from Dory and Zac, most everyone made it out safely right away. After getting Dory and 3 of the little ones outside- without a second thought, Zac broke the window to Bentley’s bedroom to bring him to safety with the rest of the family. All except Dory and Bentley have been observed and released from the hospital.

Bentley has suffered burns on his hands, arms, neck, nose, and ears. The doctor stated “superficial 2nd degree”. He will heal well, and eventually be okay.

Dory took in the worst of the smoke. She has been intubated and sedated, but she has been alert enough at times to communicate. They will both be in medical care for several days.

As for the family pets, 2 out of the 3 were not as lucky. Along with the total loss of their home and personal belongings, the Goodbreds will mourn the loss of two furry family members. Please be cautious with this information, as the family is waiting for the right moment to discuss this loss with their children.

The Illiopolis Fire Protection District is calling the rental home a “total loss”. Every piece of furniture, clothing, food, bed, toothbrush, and memento has been lost. If ever there has been a chance for our community to rally and “Pay it Forward”, that chance is now. Zac and his family are not strangers to sacrifice. As a Veteran Motor Sergeant of the 91B Airborne for the 92nd Civil Affairs Battalion in Ft. Bragg, they have had their fair share of helping people in need.

Zac works for Dawson Tire and Wheel, running the service truck in Harristown, IL. He is one of those employees that gives their all and makes the company better in all aspects. The Goodbreds are family, and we will do anything we can to help them regroup and come out stronger. Dawson has two locations where donations can be accepted physically:

“Truly I tell you, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, 'Move from here to there,' and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.’"

-Matthew 17:20 New International Version

The faith this family has is astounding. It’s time to move mountains, everybody!
