Help the Flamingo's on Bonaire!

Donation protected
Unbeknown to most, a tragedy is unfolding in the salt flats, the breeding ground of Bonaire's national bird; the flamingo. Unusually large numbers of juveniles and chicks are found outside the sanctuary, walking along the coast and road as far North as Bachelor Beach, many drifting out to sea. They are being killed by cars and from exhaustion. The Bonaire Wild Bird Rehab has been receiving up to 10 babies and juveniles a day for weeks now, and they are all severely malnourished. The cause is not yet known. Has the Sargasso grass that swept through the flats killed their food source? Are the parents not returning to feed the chicks? At this point it is all speculation. What is not speculation, however, is that the chicks and juveniles are dying in much larger numbers than usual, and you can help.

Your donation will help us buy and build more cages to cater for the large amount of flamingos coming into the rehab. Every new flamingo is carefully checked and weighed, and for this we urgently need better and more equipment, form a professional scale and different medical equipment right down to rings for identification. But first and foremost, we need food, which needs to be shipped in from Europe and the USA. Please help us save Bonaire’s flamingos. Any donation is highly appreciated!
