Lets help the Selmer Family!

On the evening of September 8th, Donald, (Big D) was riding his motorcycle home after visiting his son, Donald Paul, (DP) at UND.

He was heading east on I-94 at 2:30am when he struck a deer head-on traveling 70mph.  He fell to the left side of his bike, and slid with it into a ditch.  Donald began to spit up, and choke on his own blood.  He tried to get passersby to stop, but was unable to get anyones attention.  Thankfully, Donald had earlier charged his cell phone, and was able to dial 911.  Within 3 minutes, first responders were on the scene.  Donald was first brought to the Sauk Center hospital, however his injuries required more than they could give, so he was then Life Flighted to the St. Cloud Hospital.

Donalds wife, Christina woke at 3:00am to a phone call no one ever wants to recieve.  She was told that while Donald was responsive, this in no means meant he was "OK".  She immedieatly got into her car and began the 100+ mile drive to her husband.

Donald suffered a collapsed lung, multiple rib fractures, and a fracture to his neck.  A chest tube was placed, and on Tuesday, 9/12 Donald underwent a rib plating surgery to help stabalize the multiple fractures.  He will be in a neck brace for some time, and it is yet unclear when Donald will be able to recover in his own bed at home.

If you've ever had the pleasure of meeting Donald, you are, like Christina, Donald Paul, Emma, Bridgette, and the rest of Donalds family so VERY THANKFUL that he not only survived this accident, but with some time, he will make a full recovery.  The moments after his accident, Donald was terrified, and believed his life was going to end right there on the side of the road without anyone even knowing.  God, however, had a different plan.  And thanks to HIM, Donald will be here to love his wife and childern, make us all laugh, and "chef it up" for a long time!

Although there is SO MUCH to celebrate, the reality of this accident is that there is going to be a big financial burden that is going to hit this family hard.  Both Donald and Christina will not be working, which means there is also a loss of both incomes to add to the financial stress.  My hope is that we can rally around the Selmers and help alleviate some of this financial hardship  Please, if you can, consider giving.  ANY amount is generous, and so very appreciated!!

Thank you!!
