We are starting this GoFundMe page to help our friends, who just lost their son to a motorcycle accident and have another son with Cerebral Palsy, who requires 24x7 constant care. We are trying to raise enough money to cover funeral expenses for their oldest son, Andrew, as well as to help cover the new costs that they’ll now incur in caring for Justin, their younger son, now that Andrew is gone.
Judy and Bert Benson are the owners and operators of Benson Alpaca Farm in Suffolk. While it sounds like a great business, it costs them much more to keep operating than the farm can produce. They started this farm to ensure Justin, who has Cerebral Palsy, is active every day, although he’s confined to a wheelchair and cannot care for himself. They have helped my son, who has Down Syndrome, develop a sense of work ethic, as well.
Judy is Justin’s primary caregiver but whenever she needed help, her older son, Andrew Piskorski, was there. Instead of going out with friends, Andrew was there to give his mother a break from the daily routines of being both a farmer and a caregiver. He not only fed the animals on the farm, but also got Justin our of bed when his mother wasn’t home; he fed, changed, and bathed his younger brother; and he worked full-time at the Newport News Shipyard, along with his stepfather, Bert.
Tragically, Andrew was killed on Friday, when an SUV broadsided him while he was riding his motorcycle to work. Not only have Judy and Bert lost their oldest son, but also the only other person who Justin knows will take care of him. As anyone with a severely disabled child can tell you, caring for them costs much more than any assistance from the government will ever provide. Now, with the death of Andrew, the Benson family can really use some extra help, just to stay on their feet.
We have set a goal of $100,000 but more realistically, it would take at least $250,000 to ensure their immediate needs are met. Please help as much as you can – no amount is too small.
