Help The DuBois Family in Their Time of Need

Donation protected
My name is Michael Newcomer, and I am writing this message on behalf of my brothers of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity, who are mourning the loss of our dear friend, Jack DuBois. Jack recently passed away very suddenly; and his passing has left so many feeling empty and lost. He was such a consistent bright light in many people’s lives, and left a lasting impression on everyone he came across.

If you ever had the pleasure of meeting Jack, the first thing you would notice about him was his infectious smile. As soon as he walked in a room there was no way you could do anything but shoot one back at him. It was a smile that could instantly turn a bad day into a better one. A friend of Jack’s said it best, “They say a smile can mean a thousand words. While Jack’s smile did that, he also encompassed the phrase, A smile can heal a thousand wounds. From the day I met him I knew I wanted him around me”. No matter what kind of day you were having, seeing Jack would instantly light it up and make it better.

The second thing you would notice about Jack was his extensive kindheartedness, for it was impossible to miss once you started talking to him. It’s honestly hard to talk about, because I have never known any other person in my life who had as special of a heart. Simply put, Jack always made everyone feel loved and like they belonged. He was the most genuine person you could ever meet, and always put others before himself. He was the first person to take on the role of Mental Health chair for our fraternity– in fact he made the position what it is. This role allowed him to be a resource for anyone in our chapter who was ever struggling or feeling lost– perfect for a person with Jack’s heart. No matter what you were going through, he always managed to make things seem better. He just naturally drew people in by being himself.

He was also the life of the party. His fun-loving, carefree attitude is what we will miss most. No matter what you were doing or where you were, you could not help but say, “Where is Jack DuBois?” Sure enough you would then turn around, see him walking in, and everyone would yell “DUBOISSSS”. Jack instantly lit up every room that he walked into, and constantly carried himself with a positive attitude and an upbeat spirit. He had a way of making any event the time of your life. He was a model for all of us to look towards to see how to be the perfect brother and the perfect friend.

Jack’s passing has led to an inexplicable feeling of loss that has been felt throughout our entire chapter. From his brothers who pledged by his side, to the young guys who only had the pleasure of knowing him a semester or two, we already miss him so much. In his own right, Jack was one of the best people you would ever meet and deserved nothing but the best that life had to offer. This is what has made his sudden passing such a detrimental loss to not only our chapter, but anyone who ever had the pleasure of knowing him. As a collective who only knew Jack a fraction of our own lives, we cannot imagine the pain his family is currently undergoing following his sudden loss. This is why we are asking for YOUR help. It starts small, but a few donations can ripple out, truly helping his family and loved ones in their time of need. All donations will be going directly to Jack’s family and their expenses. We hope that your donations will help ease his family’s burden of:

-Medical bills
-Funeral costs

He was the type of person everyone needs in their life, but hardly ever deserved. Although he is gone, and many of us are still reeling from his loss, we are more than confident his memory will live on forever in our chapter, his family, and the hearts of everyone he came across. We are choosing now to live our lives exactly the way he lived his: by going through life with a high regard for generosity & selflessness. We hope you too will Live Like Jack, and selflessly donate to help a family who is dealing with such a tremendous loss.

Thank you for your time and consideration,
