Help the children of Bali

As Westerlaken foundation / Yayasan Bali Bersih, we strongly believe in the empowerment of families to break the cycle of poverty. With empowerment, we can make sure that families can stay together and prevent the common practice of submitting children to orphanages based on poverty. 
 
Our research showed that in Denpasar, 92% of the children living in orphanages had a least one parent alive and 76% of the children had both parents alive. The National Standard for Child Welfare Institutions in Indonesia provides a very clear framework for child care. Still, our study showed that many child welfare institutions are not adhering to the standards as per this National Standard. The National Standard focuses on the prevention of children being submitted to orphanages by empowerment and ensuring access to education instead of institutionalization. 
With our program, we help orphanages reunify children with their parents or close family, help to empower families to ensure empowerment and prevent institutionalization.
 
We work on a case by case approach, creating specific plans and approaches for every particular situation. Keywords for our approach are empowerment, help in kind, coaching, microcredit, education and dignity.
