I’m Nathan Townsend Executive Director and Founder of a newly established non-profit organization in Atlanta, Ga called “THE BLACK QUEER COLLECTIVE” ironically on July 4th, 2024.

We knew even before the recent shift in power in the United States that LGBTQI+ rights and social justice advances would be under attack.

We also knew that Federal funding, subsidies and programs in support of marginalized populations would either be tremendously slashed, decreased or sadly defunded and eliminated.

What we’ve seen so far is an immediate and unthinkable moratorium on critical services to our most vulnerable populations, like the transgender transgender community, the unhoused, those with low incomes, people living with HIV as well as the grant recipient agencies that support us.

We are organizing a multi-city tour of the southern cities most impacted to host town hall meetings, listening sessions and strategic planning sessions.

The Black Queer Collective realizes that even under the rainbow of a diverse spectrum of gender identities and expressions we still see systemic inequities in receiving acceptance, inclusion and affirming care.

Unfortunately even in our own racial culture we’ve fallen victim of being excluded from such social justice movements like “Black Lives Matter” and leading Fraternities, Sororities and Religious Organizations.

These powerful words from Dr. Martin Luther King, -“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere” should actually be interpreted as a Call To Action for every American citizen in defense of the ideals so powerfully articulated in our Declaration of Independence, embedded in our Constitution, carved into our Supreme Court and reflected in our Pledge of Allegiance.

We are for one nation, indivisible with Liberty and Justice for ALL…
