Update (20.10.21): Terry and Monique are in Mexico!
It has been a hard journey to get them there but they landed on the 12th of October and Terry has begun his intense three-week treatment. We are so pleased to say that he is doing really well! The days are long and the treatment is intense but he is showing improvements already and we are so grateful.

They will be in Mexico until the 14th of November.

So far, they have spent $60,000 on all medical and travel expenses. If you are still able to, please donate and share this page.

Thank you for your continued support!

Update (12.09.21): Terry and Monique have been given a travel exemption!

This is just the news we so desperately needed after the rough couple of months. Terry’s condition has continued to deteriorate - we didn’t think it could get worse, but it has. His symptoms have intensified, happen more frequently and now all hit at once (previously he would suffer one or two symptoms at a time, now it’s multiple hourly/daily).

We also hit a road bump in his treatment plan. Tez has spent a good part of his life on the footy field, resulting in a fair few head knocks and even lost a tooth. These injuries require more in-depth and intense treatment as Lyme disease attacks the weakest part of your body, hard, and poor Tez has a pretty banged-up noggin. Germany, unfortunately, informed us that upon further insight into Tezs case that he will require additional treatment they do not offer. This was a double blow but we’ve worked through it and we’ve been recommended a clinic that focuses on the whole body treatment Tez so desperately needs.

They have been approved to attend Sanoviv Medical Institute in Mexico (you can read about his treatment here: https://www.sanoviv.com/health-concerns/lyme-chronic-infectious-disease/). Due to the level of treatment Tez needs, they will be required to spend a minimum of three weeks at the clinic. We are now just waiting for Monique to be vaccinated (Tez can’t just yet, for obvious reasons) and they are off! We are hoping this will be within a couple of weeks. So far treatment will be $45,000, not including flights or hotel quarantine when they return (we are estimating these costs to be upwards of $15,000)

Thank you so so much to every single person who has donated, who has messaged us and constantly checked in on each of us. Your messages and love have been crucial for us all, especially Monique, during this hard time.
We have almost raised half of our goal and are so grateful! Please if you are able to, donate and share this page - it means so much to us xx

Update: Wow, we are so blown away by all your support and are so humbled by your generosity. Thank you! I created the first goal, not having any idea how much support we'd receive, to cover all current medical expenses in Australia. We have been able to do this thanks to all your support. Our final goal is to get Terry overseas where he can receive treatment that is not available here - this will be life-changing for him. Your continued support means so much to us all!

All funding will go directly to Terry for his treatments, treatment expenses (i.e. flights & long-term accommodation) and medication. Monique is currently applying for exemptions and organising treatment and travel logistics.

Hello! My name is Alysha and I have created this page to provide financial help to my wonderful brother-in-law Terry and his loving fiancé, my sister, Monique. Thank you in advance for donating to help Terry get through this uncertain time. We are so grateful for your ongoing support, financially and emotionally.

2021 was meant to be Terry & Monique's year; the year they would get married, buy their first home and start the next chapter of their lives together. Instead, this year has been one of emotional, mental and financial stress as they now face an uncertain road of recovery ahead while Terry battles Lyme disease.

Terry first became unwell in November 2020. His illness continued to worsen into the new year and, eventually, he became unable to work. With each passing day both Terry's physical and mental health deteriorated. Every day Terry experiences chronic fatigue, nausea, dizziness, muscle spasms and body aches, double vision, gastro intestinal problems, muscle and weight loss and heart palpitations. All his physical illnesses are accompanied by short term memory loss, brain fog, insomnia, anxiety and depression. Once a first grade rugby league player and a B grade captain/coach, Terry now struggles with daily tasks such as eating, showering, walking and cooking.

Finding answers to his symptoms was far from easy. Desperate to get better, Terry has visited multiple doctors, cardiologists, rheumatologists, chiropractors, physiotherapists, osteopaths and naturopaths. He was finally diagnosed with Lyme disease on the 27th of May 2021. Getting a diagnosis was long, expensive, difficult and emotionally draining.

Being out of work and having no health insurance, Terry and Monique have been using their house and wedding savings to fund all medical expenses which have now exceeded $7,000. With this cost increasing weekly, they have had to move back in with my parents and postpone their dream wedding so they can continue to pay for ongoing doctors, specialists, medication, supplements, blood tests, treatments, etc.

As it is an unrecognised disease in Australia, treatment is scarce and expensive. Currently, Terry is undergoing infrared sauna sessions and colon hydrotherapy, weekly. The monthly cost for these two ongoing treatments is $600 with no end date, this does not include any of his additional daily medicines, appointments and supplements. Terry is also undergoing to hyperbaric oxygen therapy sessions which will cost an upwards total of $3,000. Due to the lack of studies and funding for Lyme in Australia, there is no guarantee that these treatments will be curable. The final and last hope will be to travel overseas where he can undergo hyperthermia therapy sessions at Lyme specialist facilities which has an estimated cost of over $50,000 (including treatment, flights, accommodation, medication).

Terry is currently working with the infectious disease unit at Royal North Shore Hospital as a research participant for tick-borne illnesses in hopes that future Australians don't need to go through the same struggle. Any funds that Terry does not need to use for his treatment overseas will be donated to Lyme Disease Australia.

If you have come to this page it's likely that you know Terry and, if so, you would know that he is a kind, generous, funny, determined and loyal man. He is a loving partner, son, brother, uncle, god-parent, son-in-law, brother-in-law, teammate and friend. If you don’t know him, I can promise you that he is an absolute legend, always up for a laugh and never shies away from a good dance move. It is an honour having him in our family and  he does not deserve to be going through this (like no one with Lyme in Australia does). It has been heartbreaking to watch him experience this life-changing disease and to see both his and my sister's mental health suffer.

Any help you can give this young and loving couple is so truly appreciated. If you have any questions or would like to support Terry and Monique in another way, please reach out me at any time.

All funding will go directly to Terry for his treatments, treatment expenses (i.e. flights & long-term accommodation) and medication.
