Hello folks, my dear father is in need of your support! He and my mother are both MVNU alumni and have been in Nazarene ministry for 30 years. They have spent their lives loving and helping others. 3 years ago he nearly lost his life from ulcerative colitis complications. His current medication has quit working, and the next level up causes cancer. He needs a stem cell procedure done in CA on October 23rd. Treatment costs and travel expenses will require $20,000 due by the 23rd. Please pray for him, our family, and for the procedure itself.

Most of you know the man in the picture here. He has counseled you though a tough time in your marriage, or he has sat with you at the hospital as a loved ones health was threatened. He knows you by name when he sees you in town, and always has time to hear about your problems and concerns. For a lot of us, he has spoke directly to our hearts as he preaches on Sunday morning. And to us all, he has given us an example of what we should strive to become.
But just in case you are one of the few individuals in our community who hasn't had the privilege of meeting the man pictured here, This is Pastor Terry Burgess with his wife Cathy, daughter Elizabeth, son Jared and daughter-in-law Janaye. He has been the pastor of the Elkins Church of the Nazarene for nearly 24 years, positively impacting countless families and individuals in our area. He is truly a pillar of our community.
About 3 years ago, Pastor Terry experienced a life threatening health crisis, that nearly took his life. He spent a month in the hospital and rehab. Since then he has been struggling to recover from many of the devastating effects of Ulcerative Colitis, an autoimmune disease that affects the large intestine causing ulcers, bleeding in the bowel, severe diarrhea, inability to absorb essential nutrients, anemia and chronic fatigue. This is an extremely serious disease that greatly affects the quality of life of individuals who have it.
At Pastor Terry's most recent visit to his GI doctor, he found out his current medicine is no longer effective, and the next tier of medicine is much more dangerous. In fact, he was told the new medicine might be able to help his Ulcerative Colitis symptoms, but it will cause cancer. Luckily, there is a much better option.
A Stem Cell Transplant, which is available in San Diego, CA has a 91-100% success rate in treating Ulcerative Colitis. In this procedure, the doctors will take stem cells from the patients own body are reinsert them in the appropriate place. There is an opening to have this procedure done on October 23, 2018. Unfortunately, no insurance will cover the procedure, and the cost of the Stem Cell Transplant is $16,900. There will be the additional cost of the flight, hotel, food, and a rental car making the total amount approximately $20,000.
This may seem like a lot of money. But if everyone who's life has been blessed by this man, in one way or another, can give whatever they can afford (be it $10 or $1000) we can make sure Pastor Terry gets the treatment he so desperately needs.
