Help Us Pay Off Our Medical Debt

We started 2023 with more medical debt than we ever had before and it’s increasing weekly. We started working with a new medical group and couldn't be happier with their work. Dr. Jacob Froehlich with Cape Veterinary Hospital has gone above and beyond to keep all the residents here healthy and happy. However, we are now backed up with medical debt and we need your help paying it off. Let me introduce you to some of our most medically needy residents!

I'll start with Terrance. Terrance and his flock mate, Theresa, were rescued as little poults (that’s baby in turkey language!) from a fate that most broad-breasted turkeys face. Slaughter. They would have been someone’s food! Just the thought of someone, anyone, eating our friends is beyond comprehension. Terrance is almost 3 years old now and is suffering from liver disease. His condition was so bad last December that he was having violent seizures. He could not be left alone since he was at risk of flipping onto his back and suffocating. Without the lifesaving efforts of his incredible medical team at Cape Veterinary Hospital and his dedicated human caretakers, Kaidyn & Leon, he surely would have died. But Terrance WANTS to live and he DESERVES to live so we are taking every measure we can to help him. Terrance is a vibrant and funny guy who has made remarkable progress on his medication regimen so far. His will to live is unlike anyone I’ve ever met before. He deserves the fighting chance to thrive! Terrance’s best friends are two teenage brothers who are committed to his well-being and happiness but we need your help. His doctor visits and medication, like most animal family members, are not covered by any health insurance. And it’s not cheap. His medications alone currently cost $400/month and he must continually be monitored. If you choose to donate towards our campaign you’re helping Terrance live his very best life!

Dakota. Dakota is a 4-year-old female Holstein cattle with a severe case of mastitis. Mastitis is an infection inside the udder causing swelling and pain. Dakota's infection is persistent and she has been receiving treatment for months. Her last resort will be full udder amputation but we are trying everything to avoid that. Dakota has been with us since she was just 1 week old. We rescued her and Marley together in December 2018 from a Lancaster dairy farm that tossed them away. She has never been pregnant (and never will be) but most cows at her age have already done their time on a dairy farm and are soon sent to slaughter. If it comes down to amputation it will not impede on the quality of her life. For now, we'd like to continue injection treatments several times a week and your donation will help her tremendously.

Spartacus. Spartacus was one of our first feline rescues in Maurice River Township. He was found in the city of Millville starving, injured, and alone. He was only a few months old and was just a terrible mess. He had a bite wound on his head permanently damaging his eye, a severe upper respiratory infection, was emaciated, and sadly FeLV+. A Feline Leukemia Virus diagnosis usually means a death sentence for cats but we don't believe in euthanizing a healthy animal. Spartacus is one of the funniest and most loving cats I've known. His deep meow is so unmistakable. 3 happy years went by without any serious health issues until this year. Spartacus developed a quick-growing mass on his back and tests revealed it was cancerous. Luckily his surgery removed the entire mass with clean margins! The next step is to run a few more tests to make certain that the cancer did not spread elsewhere. We need your help to proceed with his treatment plan. Please donate to help.

Astrid. Astrid was rescued from a severe neglect case in 2019 along with 4 other alpacas, 1 pig, and many chickens, turkeys, and ducks. The alpacas had not been sheared in years and had severely overgrown teeth and hooves. They were considered feral having a history of very little human contact. Over the years Astrid warmed up to us and even learned to trust us enough to eat from a scoop in our hand. She is a small gentle girl who had an awful accident this year and we are lucky to have not lost her. Our alpacas have lived with our cattle for almost 4 years and never had an accident before this year. Astrid was horned right in the stomach by one of our youngest cattle. Sadly we couldn't get a look at it for a few days. Thankfully no vital organs were hit but within those few days she developed an infection and maggot infestation that required immediate surgery and hospitalization. She stayed in hospital for several days until she could return home. To date, she us still healing and is expected to make a full recovery.

Those are just our most serious cases and we have many more less severe patients that still required medical care. We cannot responsibly open our doors for more intakes until this debt is paid off. Saying no to abuse and neglect cases breaks my heart. We just want to help. Please donate and share our campaign so we can continue heloung animals who need us.
