Help Teresa Recover from Spinal Cord Injury

                                          "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again"

Our very dear friend Teresa is lying in a hospital bed singing "Tell Your Heart to Beat Again". She then explains the powerful story behind Danny Gokey's song, which reminds us how important it is to "take step one" ~how to have unshakable faith in the midst of life's storms and uncertainties. 

Teresa is familiar with storms; only recently, she has been mourning the loss of her husband with whom she shared 31 amazing years. Then, three weeks ago she had a terrible fall, suffering a spinal cord injury along with spinal shock, which required emergency surgery. Because of the severe damage, she needed to undergo another surgical procedure two days later. The doctors did what they could; however, at this point, the prognosis is not so good. 

Teresa cannot move her body from the chest down. She is paralyzed and often in constant pain, yet she is the one inspiring those around her to keep on smiling and laughing. She is truly an inspiration, responding to tragedy with such grace. Since the very first day she was able to get up in a wheelchair, to the strap system she is now using to work on mobilization, Teresa has indeed been taking it one small, courageous step at a time.

Needless to say, Teresa's medical treatments will be both extensive and expensive. She will need hours of daily physical, occupational, and speech therapy, in addition to further surgeries aimed at minimizing complications. She will also require specialized equipment and various modifications inside her home in order to accomodate a wheelchair, lift, etc. As she is unable to work, Teresa must now come up with around $40,000 to cover all of these expenses for rehabilitation and home care.

Thankfully, Teresa is surrounded by a strong and loving community.  She is a firm believer in Jesus Christ, a dedicated mom, an amazing friend, and just an overall incredible person! She is our daily dose of sunshine!
