Help Teresa Deltete Keep Her Home

Teresa Deltete, a breast and face cancer survivor, Christian grief counselor, devout Catholic and primary caregiver for her dying parents, needs our help!

Teresa witnessed the violent suicide of her husband on February 22, 2018 in an act of despair resulting from the weight of debt and depression.  Paul was a brilliant but controlling man who suffered from unaddressed mental health issues and alcoholism. His suicide has brought to light other aspects of his control and self-destruction – specifically their finances.  Assuring Teresa that they were fine, he engaged in unsuccessful day trading and lost a large portion of their combined nest egg and liquidated brokerage assets. He suffered an illness that manifested itself with bouts of paranoia, alcoholism, and resentment for her being away to care for her parents. Paul drained their finances, creatively filed their taxes (which  triggered an IRS audit) and secured a line of credit using their home as collateral (a loan that could be called at any time). In total they owe, $112K plus penalties to the IRS, $20K in unpaid credit cards, and $331K against the house.  At present, Teresa’s account has been frozen by the Social Security Administration until they withdraw her husband’s last pension check, resulting in her bills and automatic payments to return unpaid. She has used her savings to pay for funeral expenses, overdue property taxes, and overdue attorney’s fees so they taxes could be mitigated down to $112K plus penalties.

Only three years ago, Teresa had lost her brother to suicide making her the primary caregiver and healthcare advocate for their parents resolved to dying in their family home. Her brother had been providing financially and with their personal needs including in-home services from the V.A. for her father and sitters for her mother who is now under in-home hospice care. The  responsibility as their health care agent as well as her father’s emotional dependence has now fallen on Teresa who has been traveling between Baltimore and Georgia, where she stays for several weeks assisting with doctors visits, medical emergencies, hiring sitters, maintaining the household needs, shopping for food, providing meals, and caring for her parents beloved pets. This financial burden incurred by her husband has threatened the support she can provide to them.

She is in desperate need of immediate financial support. This page has been created by friends to help eliminate the enormous financial debt incurred without her knowledge by her husband while she continues caring for her parents.

We know that money can be tight, so please know that any amount helps and will get Teresa to a more manageable place during her grief and allow her to continue to provide physical care for her parents during their last days.  If you cannot support financially, please prayerfully consider sharing this page with anyone who might be able to help our friend.
