Help tell the Smokey Devil story

Donation protected

Smokey Devil is a seasoned graffiti writer in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside (DTES), who uses his art to raise awareness about the overdose crisis and other problems facing his community. Smokey’s story explains his 30 years of experience as an artist/drug user who has lost hundreds of friends and family (including his wife) to overdose. We follow Smokey’s epic journey from a young boy growing up in the correctional facility to a now peace-loving activist who has earned him the reputation in the DTES as “the voice of the ghetto”. Smokey gives us unrestricted access to one of the most marginalized communities in Canada where he is an icon and paints the streets in broad daylight with no fear of repercussion. The worst overdose crisis in Canadian history serves as the backdrop for Smokey's story, while civil society tries to reform ancient drug policies and push for decriminalization and a safe supply of drugs.

We need five thousand dollars to finish this project.
