Help Taylor to SEE the World

Hello! So, some of you may know my sister, Taylor. For those of you who don’t know her, she is an extraordinary person and my best friend. She has a generous heart that beats for everyone. Taylor was diagnosed with a degenerative neurological disease when she was 16 years old. We were told that she needed a bone marrow transplant in order to survive. Some of you may have known us then and remember that time. The story is pretty gnarly, but also miraculous. Tay is well now (didn’t end up needing a transplant), fully functional and even excels at an honors level in school. She is amazing and works incredibly hard at everything she does. Unfortunately, her sight was affected by her disease, and Taylor hasn’t been able to see, almost at all, since she was one year old. Her sight continued to deteriorate and now she is so severely nearsighted that she has to wear the highest power specialized contacts with glasses on top of them. Even then, she still can’t see all that well. The great news is that there is a surgery available to her that can correct this. It’s actually two surgeries, a lens replacement and lasik on top of that to correct her astigmatism. The bad news is that this surgery is still considered “cosmetic” so it is not covered by insurance. Because of this, the price tag is a whopping $10,000. Which is partially why we are putting this out there and asking all of our people (as well as everyone/anyone that might care) to help. The eye surgeon has told Tay that this surgery would be miraculous and life-changing for her.


But wait, there's more! Taylor is graduating from the University of San Diego this May with a degree in International Relations. She recently accepted an invitation to serve in the Peace Corps in Botswana as an HIV/AIDS Capacity Building-Civil Society Volunteer. It has been her dream for a very long time to join the Peace Corps and it is absolutely incredible that she has been accepted. She is so excited to volunteer. However, the Peace Corps does not recommend wearing contacts in the developing world due to an increased likelihood of infection. Since Tay will be living there for over two years, we want to make sure she is in the best possible health and has every opportunity to succeed while serving and developing the community she is working in, in Botswana.
