Help Fund Tammy’s Medical Enrichment!

Hello everyone! My name is Tammy Dang, a 17-year-old from Houston, Texas attending Kerr High School.

I’ve always had a passion for the sciences. During my years in high school, I made an effort to take the most rigorous science classes (including Pre-AP, AP, and Dual Credit). I am in the top 5% of my class. Beyond excellent performance in academics, I also readily participate in extracurricular activities. I am the founder of the HOSA chapter (Health Occupational Students of America)—a health organization fueled by students' passion in the medical field—at my competitive high school.

Coming from an immigrant family and being a first-generation American, I do not have any family members who are in the medical field, so I have little information on what this career pathway entails. With the recent events from COVID-19 and my father passing away from cancer, I felt powerless in the wake of these variables I wasn’t able to control. Particularly after observing the passionate work of our frontline workers battling against the pandemic this past year, I felt more determined to devote myself to the years it takes to become a medical professional. I want to do more. I want to engage more. But before I can do that, I need to learn more.

Fortunately, after a competitive interviewing and application process, I was accepted to attend an intense 2-week shadowing program that will expose me to the clinical field and give me an advantage when it comes to learning more about what it’s like to work in a clinical setting, the process of running clinical laboratories, and broadening my scope of the global health scene. Unfortunately, what I’ve also come to learn is the financial frustration that is included in attending such an experience.

As a result of my financial hardship, I qualify for the State of Texas’s free lunch program and SNAP. I come from a single-parent household. It is difficult to fund this trip due to its steep costs with the addition of the hospital bills from my father’s passing.

If 800 individuals are willing to donate at least $5 ( the price of a cup of coffee), it will ease the financial burden of funding a prospecting medical student’s future! With your support, I will be there, fighting to ensure the world remains a healthy place. With your support, I can take one step closer to being a qualified professional in medical science and take one step closer to a better world.

Your assistance is sincerely appreciated. Thank you in advance for your generous donations! Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
