On Sunday July 11, 2021 I was caught in a horrible flash flood. My friend and I were coming back home after a visit with my daughter and grandson in Lubbock, TX. It had rained on us the whole way home. I thought for sure we were going to get caught up in a tornado, it was like nothing I had ever seen before. I never thought in a million years that I would be taken out by a flash flood, especially 10 miles from home! But just as I finally decided to pull over due some debris in the road that's when a wall of water came rushing down the mountain. When my car first began to move I thought I could control it, but then in less than a second of time my car was swooshed off the road completely and started the scariest ride of my life. We were being thrown from one direction to another by the crashing waves. I thought my car was going to be flipped upside down. THANK GOD it wasn't or we would have died for sure. All I could do was pray to God for what seemed like forever! I prayed so loud and so hard for the rain to stop for the car to stop for everything to just stop! Then as fast as our ride started it came to a stop. The car had been launched over some boulders and did a sort of nose dive into the sand. I was afraid to move. I thought if we moved to much the car would be dislodged from its position and we would be back in the wild rapids again. So I kept praying for the water to stop rushing by. We tried to get out of the car but the doors wouldn't open. The sun roof wouldn't open all the way. Water was being splashing up over my car and water was coming in the sun roof and splashing down on us. I thought I was going to drown. So we broke the windows in the front doors to try to escape. The water was rushing down on my side of the car so there was no escape on my side. The water wasn't as bad on the passenger side so I got out of the car with my flash light that blinks. I started to look for someone who could help us but I had no idea where we were. I couldn't even see the highway from where my car stopped. I have never been so scared so overwhelmed and so grateful for my life all at the same time. Just then I saw a light flashing and realized it was the fire department there to help us. My car is a total loss. As well as the contents that were in my car. My phone, my wallet, and everything else had to be replaced. And just as most people do the second my car was paid for the insurance was dropped down to liability, not full coverage. Therefore my insurance is not going to help me replace my vehicle. I live in Organ (up the hill) and care for my mother. A vehicle is an absolute necessity! I'm not asking for anything fancy just something reliable. Please help me replace my car.
