Help Taki Beat Cancer

Taki Michalos is one of the best people I know.

He’s a devoted husband and father who worked 14-hour days to support his family.  A pillar of the community who volunteered at his church and coached the girl’s volleyball team.  A loyal friend who always made himself available to lend a helping hand … even helping people move and painting their houses.

Now the tables have turned.  Taki is the one who needs help.

Now, at the age of 55, when many men start taking it easy, Taki has entered the battle for his life.

You see, Taki has been diagnosed with glioblastoma, one of the deadliest, most difficult-to-treat cancers.

He is now living on disability, which will run out at the end of October. His lovely wife Michele is now working long days to bring money into the home to keep things afloat. His beautiful daughters Alexis and Krystina now worry every day, instead of focusing on their studies and enjoying all that college has to offer.

Having already undergone brain surgery, Taki has now entered the treatment phase. And this is where access to the best and newest treatments can improve his chances -- and possibly give him and his family their future back.

The standard treatment – chemo and radiation -- offers dismal odds. Most patients don’t survive past 18 months.

However, there is amazing work being done in the field.  Cutting-edge treatments, although little-known, are improving outcomes and increasing lifespans.  Some patients have survived for over ten years, and are still going strong!

The best part? There’s a well-respected cancer doctor 11 minutes from Taki’s home who is at the forefront of these treatments.

Sadly, only a small portion of these life-saving treatments are covered by insurance. (The fact is that even the chemo and radiation are not fully covered.  Taki and Michele already owe over $10,000 for the chemo and radiation treatments he’s had so far.)

I want Taki to be able to get the best, most promising treatments possible. And I want him to be able to rest easy at night, knowing that treating his cancer will not leave his beautiful family burdened with debt.

That’s what this GoFundMe campaign is all about.

I am asking you to join me in helping this man who I am so proud to call my friend.  Whatever you feel comfortable giving WILL make a difference, and WILL be gratefully appreciated.  Please donate what you can.   Thank you for your generosity.
