Please follow my story that’s helping hundreds of children in Malawi.
I am a former Malawi tennis champion, the only female tennis player to compete at the highest international level. I started playing tennis together with my brother when I was 11 years old and he was 13. Together, we dominated tennis in Malawi to the point that they called us the “Williams of Malawi”. I played competitive tennis and represented my country at international level, won International Tennis Federation (ITF) medals as well as held the top seed position in Malawi for 6 years in a row.
I was selected to University of Malawi, Chancellor College to pursue Bachelor of Arts degree in Media for Development. I was number 1 player at the University and I represented the university at World university games and many more. I won gold and silver medals.
In 2015 I got the opportunity of my life to study and play College sports in United States of America. I was awarded an athletic scholarship at Southern Wesleyan University, South Carolina. I helped my tennis team to earn regional championship in 2016 for the first time in our college history. Also qualified for NCAA D2 national championship for the first time.
After college in USA, upon my arrival back home to Malawi in 2018, I wanted to train more young people, to give them the opportunity to excel in school and athletics with the hope that I would give someone an opportunity to do more than what I achieved. I established MATCH Foundation, a sports for development charity organization in Malawi.
MATCH exists to provide young people from underprivileged communities with skills, education & mentorship for them to be productive members of society and thrive. We currently serve 145 tennis athletes whom we provide free tennis lessons, rackets, sports gear, shoes, tennis balls all this on one tennis court.
We also provide After-School reading classes to them as well as Digital Skills training. We have close to 2,000 young people through our outreach life skills mentoring programs.
Our dream is to provide access to quality education as well as promote physical well-being through tennis. We embarked on a School project, we're currently building a full primary school that will have 8 classrooms, library, teacher’s office, and access to clean water, solar power as well as 2 tennis courts, change rooms and store room.
We have raised enough money to complete school blocks, tennis courts, water well and solar power. However, we need to raise more money to complete change rooms for the tennis side, MATCH Foundation office as well as a small library.
Our School will open on 11th September 2023 and the building is almost ready however, we need to complete the library, changimg rooms, paint tennis courts, before 31st July.
Thank you in advance for your support.
With gratitude,
Tadala
