Help Sweet Daisy Mae Beat Cancer

Daisy Mae came into our lives in the spring of 2015, when we contacted an area Basset Hound rescue about adopting a companion for Patton, our older Basset mix. In the past five years we’ve only fallen more in love with her sweet, playful spirit – and we know many of you have, too. She gave new life and energy to Patton, keeping him active and remaining by his side right up until his death in February.
Just five weeks after we lost Patton to splenic hemangiosarcoma, our Daisy was diagnosed with lymphoma. Without treatment, she won’t make it to her 10th birthday in June. With treatment, we can keep her healthy and happy for much longer.
At the recommendation of our veterinarian, Daisy has already begun chemotherapy in hopes of sending the cancer into remission and providing our sweet girl with as long, happy, and healthy a life as possible. Unlike humans, dogs typically experience minimal side effects from chemotherapy and maintain a high quality of life throughout treatment. After her first treatments, Daisy’s energy and mood have improved and we are seeing glimpses of the sweet girl we love so dearly. The aggressive CHOP chemotherapy regimen has a high success rate in dogs, but it is expensive. Although we have set the initial goal at $1,500, the estimate for the full six month treatment regimen, barring any unforeseen complications, is $8,500.
This would be challenging enough in normal circumstances, but the recent global coronavirus pandemic has severely impacted our financial situation. Just like so many others across the country (and around the world), we’re experiencing a lot of instability and uncertainty in a very grim job market. So, we’re asking for your help to defray the costs of Daisy’s medical treatment.
