Help Sustain Leon Cato Photography

Many of you know Leon Cato as my brother-from-another-mother whom I’ve had the honor of including in my family-of-choice for the last 25+ years.  Some of you also know Leon as a talented and passionate artist with a phenomenal gift for capturing the human spirit and the nuance of life’s events through the lens of his camera.  Throughout the last 8 years, Leon has been able to remain true to his art through the business, Leon Cato Photography, which he launched while living in London and has successfully maintained since returning to New York City.  Through a combination of personal investments, business networking and tireless artistic drive, Leon’s photography business has been a self-sustaining venture since 2010.  As with any business endeavor, normal wear and tear on the equipment along with outdated technology have started to impact his artistic output. Unfortunately some of Leon's critical equipment broke down this week bringing his business to an unexpected and costly halt.  As anyone who understands art knows, photography is not a cash flow heavy business – which leaves Leon in a bind.

In learning of the challenging situation Leon finds himself, I offered to start this GoFundMe campaign in support of his continued work as a photographer.  While his primary work as a photographer is focused on architectural and interior photography throughout New York City, his artistic passion reflects his core beliefs and commitment to advancing social justice. His current projects include The Others, which explores poverty and the realities born out of systems of economic inequity; South Ninth Avenue, which examines gentrification through the intersections of class and race; and Adam's Apple, which documents a transgender man’s journey to aligning his internal and external sense of gender identity.

My hope is that through this fundraising campaign, we can collectively help Leon raise the $2500 his business needs to immediately replace critical technology and equipment. Please join me in contributing whatever amount you can to support Leon’s efforts to offer the world the gift of his photography. In addition to your donation, sharing this campaign throughout your networks is greatly appreciated.
