<div>My name is Rafael Collado. I built one of the most comprehensive independent Paris 2024 object archives online. It now documents 200+ objects across 6 languages (with 500+ in the collection), but I can no longer sustainably fund web development, hosting, preservation, and documentation alone.

<div>I created this archive because I watched something exceptional begin to disappear almost as soon as the Games ended.

<div><strong>How it started</strong>
</div>

</div>
<div>During Paris 2024, I began simply: a judo figurine, an official poster, and a fridge magnet from the Olympic online shop. But the Phryges, the elegant color palette, and the consistency of the design language across so many categories caught my attention immediately. What started as a few purchases quickly grew into something much deeper. During and after the Games, I kept sourcing more objects whenever I could.

<div>Soon I realized the real problem: official product pages were vanishing, distribution channels were shutting down, and more and more items were only visible through temporary second-hand listings with almost no context. The physical objects survived, but the structure around them was collapsing fast.

<div>That was the turning point. Collecting became archival work.

<div>I began treating every piece seriously: systematic comparison of variants, protected storage in sealed boxes, careful documentation, and long-term preservation. My home gradually turned into a working archive space. What began with three small items snowballed into a substantial private collection built entirely in my free time, with my own money, and virtually no outside support.

<div>The archive has already grown to more than <strong>500 total items</strong>, with over <strong>200 indexed and published</strong> so far. The collection has been sourced across <strong>France</strong>, several <strong>European countries</strong>, <strong>China</strong>, and <strong>Japan</strong>, reflecting the international production, distribution, and collecting landscape of Paris 2024. This multilingual, cross-market approach comes naturally from my own international background as a dual US-German citizen who has lived and worked across Europe, the US, and China. That ongoing exposure helps me access and verify material from different sourcing regions and build the archive as a solo project.

<div>The archive spans a wide material range, from <strong>coins</strong>, <strong>plushes</strong>, <strong>posters</strong>, <strong>clothing</strong>, <strong>hairpins</strong>, <strong>bracelets</strong>, <strong>backpacks</strong>, <strong>sports equipment </strong>and <strong>general merchandise</strong>,<strong> </strong>to <strong>limited-edition pieces</strong>, <strong>athlete-related items</strong>, and <strong>restricted-distribution material</strong>, including higher-tier objects such as exclusive <strong>podium Phryges</strong>.

<div>Today, The Phryge Collection offers original photography, all taken by me, structured item records, provenance and rarity frameworks, multilingual access in six languages, and interconnected coverage linking objects to design systems, athletes, venues, and results. The archive operates in English, French, Spanish, German, Japanese, and Chinese, reflecting the fact that Paris 2024 was global in production, retail, resale, and collecting. Many of the documented items are already difficult to find outside scattered second-hand listings.

<div><strong>Why this matters now</strong>
</div>

<div>Paris 2024 deserves this level of care. In my view, it was one of the most visually coherent and beautifully executed Olympic Games in recent memory, a true design ecosystem where almost everything felt connected. Most Games produce memorable individual pieces. Paris 2024 created a unified system worth preserving properly.

<div>Unfortunately, most Olympic merchandise does not disappear physically. It disappears structurally. Packaging variants, manufacturing differences, regional exclusives, and restricted-distribution items lose their context once they move into private hands or fragmented resale markets. Once those relationships are lost, they become very difficult to reconstruct.

<div>The Phryge Collection exists to prevent that. It documents not just the objects themselves, but the system behind them: how they were produced, how they circulated, and how one of the most distinctive Olympic design languages of recent years was expressed in physical form.

<div>The archive has now reached a scale where continuing to maintain, expand, and document it properly is no longer sustainable on my own. There are still important, and often costlier, pieces left to acquire, many more items waiting to be photographed and catalogued, and a clear next phase ahead: stronger public documentation, a YouTube channel with live archiving sessions, a broader social media presence, and eventually the possibility of physical exhibitions.
