Help Susie Jermain Rebuild Asheville Communities

Donation protected
Please support Susie Jermain in her efforts to provide community relief for communities impacted by Hurricane Helene around the Asheville area

UPDATE 12/8/24
This photo from last winter shows sheep lining up in the snow in Swannanoa. Snow is coming again to this area but the sheep were washed away in the storm along with everything else that was lost. Some people in this region are still living in tents and Susie is gearing up with her community to provide support where it is most needed as the cold approaches.

From Susie:
"Winter has arrived in the Appalachian region affected by Hurricane Helene. We are urgently asking for your support. We are working together to keep people warm, to get firewood to rural communities, to build houses, and to get people out of the cold. Please do not forget us. I will do my best to update this page with photos, and a list of the organizations I am working with."

Susie needs money to fund these relief efforts along with a pick-up truck to run firewood donations, deliver food, and get to rural mountain towns safely.

Your donations thus far have supported Susie's necessary car repairs and living expenses through the gaps, with a few hundred dollars to spare. Now that she is working regularly again, she'd like to continue fundraising for those in need.

Original post:
The day before the hurricane Susie was in Swannanoa, observing a turtle trying to climb a tree. Even the animals sensed what was coming. Luckily, she was in West Asheville during the storm and survived. She has been working daily to support her beloved community since that day and is now hoping to get funding so she can put all her efforts into continued mutual aid efforts.

Susie's car is essential in her relief efforts and needs minor repairs to stay in the road, and she needs money to cover essentials for herself so she can focus her efforts on support. Any amount over $3000 will go directly to on-the-ground mutual aid network and be used to fill gaps left by outside aid organizations.

From Susie:
"We are still in the middle of a profound crisis here in the Appalachian mountains affected by hurricane Helene. We are still working to get to people in rural areas that have yet to see rescue and relief. This is vast and it is unprecedented here. As cold weather comes this week, urgency is sustained and we are needed more not less"

This money will go towards helping keep Susie in her community working for collective recovery.

Susie is my good friend of nearly two decades and I can assure all donors that the money will be put toward its intended purpose.
