My name is Haley, and this handsome boy is Winnie, my 5-year-old baby.

Ever since I was a little girl, I dreamed of having a cat. That dream came true when I brought Winnie home five years ago. From the very first day, he stole my heart and became my best friend.

Winnie has been more than just a pet, he has been my comfort, my constant, and my healer. Each time I came home from the hospital, it was Winnie’s purrs, cuddles, and unconditional love that helped me through some of the hardest moments of my life. He has been my safe place, and I truly believe his love helped me heal.

Winnie quickly became part of my fiancé Ian’s life too, and together we see him not just as a cat, but as our first child.

That’s why this morning was so devastating. Winnie was found collapsed in the living room, yowling and unable to control his bowels. We rushed him to the emergency vet, where he was taken back immediately. The doctors suspected heart failure and possibly a heart attack, given his symptoms and the fluid coming from his nose.

We were faced with a heartbreaking decision: either put Winnie to sleep, or run tests, keep him on oxygen, and try medication that might give us more time. Ian and I chose to fight for him. Right now, Winnie is in critical but stable condition as we wait for test results to understand how severe this truly is and what our next steps might be.

The uncertainty is unbearable. We are devastated, heartbroken, and clinging to hope that there is still a way to give Winnie more time with us, the family that loves him so deeply.
