Help Support "Try, Try Again," a Sci-fi-Comedy Short Film

Hello, my name is Greyson Brooks, and I am a current graduate student in the University of Georgia's MFA in Film, Television, and Digital Media program. I am currently in the midst of finalizing preproduction for my student short film "Try, Try Again," which I plan to be shooting at the end of February!

So What's This All About, Anyways?
Good question! Why don't I give you a brief rundown:
"Try, Try Again" is a sci-fi/comedy following an intrepid time-traveler, who, after stepping on a snail 66 million years ago, is forced to keep returning to the same moment in time over and over again in hopes of correcting a mistake that ended up having spiraling effects on the future. After a few go-rounds, things start to get a bit wacky. A few more, and who's to say? Maybe even a dinosaur gets involved...

But Why are You Making This?
Wow, you're just nailing these hard-hitting questions!
The fundamental concepts behind "Try, Try Again" are built upon decades of amazing stories created in the drama. I grew up just absolutely obsessed with the classics: Back to the Future and Groundhog Day; not to mention Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure and Meet the Robinsons. So when writing this script, one of the biggest questions I kept asking myself was "What makes yours so special?" It's a simple question, but a tricky one to answer. I'll try my best, though.

I believe "Try, Try Again" stands out because it doesn't shy away from its inspirations. It has its story roots in the classic sci-fi/time-travel films I love, but also takes great inspiration from many of the zany cartoons and animations I grew up with. This is a sci-fi comedy, after all. There are multiple humorous moments throughout the film, from physical comedy to the props and sets themselves. Multiple times I've described my concept to friends and classmates as a "live-action cartoon," and I stand by it.

As an independent, student filmmaker just starting to get his sea legs in the industry, I see this film as my chance to express to the world who exactly they're messing with. I want to experiment; to use multiple forms of mixed media, practical effects, and animation to exaggerate and enhance comedic moments in the story. I'm also creating many of the props on my own, including an entire dinosaur head puppet! This is, by far, the largest creative endeavor I've taken on. And for that, I'm going to need some help.

Meet the Team:
The team behind "Try, Try Again" is made up of incredibly passionate and talented student filmmakers looking to make films that they are proud of. Our drive comes from a desire to make art and create something that connects with and inspires those who see it. With your help, these students will get experience with proper equipment and extensive production design while making safety a top priority.

Greyson Brooks: Writer, Director

Graduated from UGA with an A.B. in Entertainment and Media Studies, Greyson has now begun his graduate career as he pursues an M.F.A. in Film Production. Coming off of directing "Tune in Next Time," a psychological thriller short film, he is excited to dive into a new genre and story that he's known for a long time. While at UGA, he has written and directed several short films, each just about as insane as the last. He also served as Director of Photography for "A Place to Be" (dir. Aida Elkashef) and "Flashbulb" (dir. Griffin Dunn) as well as producing and acting on several other student films over his time attending UGA.

Eli Hutchinson: Producer

Eli is a graduate student in the masters program for Film, Television, and Digital Media at UGA. He previously graduated from Western Carolina University, where he majored in Film and Television Production. He has a love of fantastical stories and is excited to take on the task of producing this ambitious time-travel adventure.

Ebone' Wallington-Gramblin: Director of Photography

Eboné is a fellow graduate student in Film, Television, and Digital Media at UGA. She has worked in multiple projects as above-the-line positions such as DP and Director. She can't wait to add Try, Try Again to the list!

Budget:
"Try, Try Again" has a goal of $500 USD. Here is a list of things that will go towards the making of this short film.
40% of this goal will go towards feeding and providing for the cast and crew during production.
