After battling recurring, and increasingly severe, painful diverticulitis infections for months, Bill McKnight required an emergency colectomy on January 29th. It was a very scary situation for Bill, his wife Rachel, and their family, and they were so thankful that the surgery was successful. Bill will require about a week of recovery at the hospital from the day of surgery, and another 3 months to complete healing at home, as long as there are no further complications.
The McKnights are a beautiful, faithful family with 6 children. Rachel has been the Director of Religious Education at St. Louis the King parish in Marquette for years, and also homeschools their children. In addition to being the primary provider for his family, Bill is currently a candidate for the diaconate in the diocese of Marquette.
The family is incredibly appreciative of all the prayers and support they have received from their friends, community, and beyond. Even though their financial burden is great, they wouldn’t think of asking for help themselves. That’s where we, their friends, have decided to step in!
Since Bill’s illness has taken place over two calendar years, the family has two insurance deductibles to meet. Meanwhile, Bill’s employer has been excellent and supportive, allowing him short-term disability pay through the travails of his illness. However, this is still only 60% of his regular pay, which isn’t making ends meet . There are also additional expenses associated with such a long, serious, illness, such as needing to grab meals on the go, extra gas money, etc.
Bill, Rachel, and their family have enough to worry about right now, so we’d love to at least relieve some of the financial burden they are facing. If you feel called to contribute, know that any little bit will be appreciated. If you are unable to contribute financially, your continued prayers would mean the world to this sweet family.
