Help Support the Biles Twins

EXPRESS VERSION: I do not have enough PTO to take the necessary time off to care for our extremely premature twin girls as prescribed by the doctor's and nurses at the NICU. We need to be able to pay our bills while I take time off. Thank you in advance for any and all support for my family in our time of need.


On October 25 I received a surprising phone call from my wife, Joisee-Ann Biles. She had gone to the doctor for her weekly check-up as her pregnancy was considered high risk. Joisee was told that the twins needed to be delivered that evening due to some medical complications. This pregnancy had already been much harder than our first and we weren't expecting the twins to come for almost two more months. Bayah Annabelle Biles and Teaghan Monaghan Biles were delivered extremely premature at 27 weeks 5 days.

Both girls are doing well, everything considered, but they are not out of the woods yet. We are taking things one day at a time and celebrating the small milestones. Teaghan needed to be intubated immediately after birth. The doctors have removed it twice, but each time they found it necessary to put the tube back in. The girls have fluctuated up and down. They are trending in the right direction, but this is an intensely stressful time for all of us.

11/5/17 Bayah is doing well. They had to give her an IV as her blood sugar has been fluctuating quite a bit since they took out her umbilical line.
11/5/17 Teaghan is still having a hard time breathing and needs the assistance of a ventilator. She also has an IV to help with dips in blood sugar.

Joisee and I visit every morning to talk to our girls and hold them when we are able. Many times we visit again in the evening or call to check up on them. The doctors and nurses have been incredible with the girls and all the questions that we have had. It has been amazing to see the clear improvement in their vitals after they have been held skin to skin by either Joisee or myself. At this point, kangaroo care, talking to them and helping with their care is all that we can do. The staff at Shady Grove has been very clear that we need to continue coming in every single day. It's extremely hard to not be able to do more at this point in time, but we are doing our best to be there for our daughters and do everything that we can. 

The issue that we are running into is that I no longer have PTO(paid time off) to cover the remaining time of my FMLA leave. I submitted a donation request form (this would have allowed co-workers to donate their own PTO to help us) to my HR department, as there is a program in place to help people that have life-events, but for some reason, I was denied. Now we are confronted with the stressful situation of needing to take time off to care for Bayah, Teaghan, our other 2-year-old daughter, and everything else life throws our way, but not having enough PTO. We are struggling to figure out how to pay bills while I take the necessary time off.
