<div>Earlier this year, Sarah began experiencing what seemed like a stubborn cough and persistent ear pressure that wouldn’t go away. A scan was ordered simply to rule things out — but instead, it revealed a large mass on her brain.

<div>After many appointments, scans, and consultations, Sarah underwent brain surgery on November 12 in Indianapolis. By God’s grace, the surgery went well, and her neurosurgeon was able to remove 99% of the tumor. Recovery has been real and ongoing — marked by progress, setbacks, and the slow work of healing.

<div>In the weeks following surgery, pathology results brought life-altering news. Further review confirmed a diagnosis of Grade 4 IDH-mutant astrocytoma, a rare and aggressive form of brain cancer. Sarah’s medical team has outlined a treatment plan that will likely last up to a year, with ongoing maintenance and care. While this plan meets the standard of care that is commonly recommended for her situation, Sarah and Ben are also pursuing additional expert input, including consultations at MD Anderson in Houston, as they seek wisdom and clarity for their next steps.

<div>As Sarah continues to heal from surgery and prepare for treatment, the family has faced an additional and unexpected hardship.

<div>While working mid-January, Ben suffered a distal bicep tendon tear, a serious injury repaired with surgery and has left him unable to lift or carry weight for three to four months. Ben is self-employed and works entirely with his hands. This injury has resulted in a sudden and significant loss of income at the very moment the family is navigating cancer treatment, recovery, and increased medical travel.

<div>Together, these realities have created an overwhelming season. Sarah is still recovering physically and neurologically, managing post-surgical needs, and preparing for ongoing cancer care. Ben is balancing his own recovery while caring for Sarah and their four children, all while the family’s primary source of income is paused.
