Chronically Ill Artist Needs (back) Support!

Donation protected

Hey there! My name’s Darby and I’m a disabled and chronically ill artist working out of the UK. I’ve been living with Multiple Sclerosis for almost 10 years now, and despite its challenges, I’ve tried my best to carve out a career for myself. I make illustrations, portraits, asset packs, and whatever else I try to turn my hand to.

Recently I’ve started selling prints of my art, which is great! I finally feel like I have a real business and I couldn’t have done it without the awesome support of my Twitter fam <3

However.

As part of streamlining my work day I’ve recently rearranged my small room into a workspace. I spend anywhere between 6 and 14 hours a day every day working in this space, a lot of that at my laptop, getting prints ready, doing admin, organising Etsy etc. Right now, this is my current chair:

It is... less than ideal. The metal is uncomfortable, unsupportive and has actually started leaving bruises on my legs. Right now, and for the foreseeable future, a new chair is just out of my budget. I left a difficult marriage less than a year ago and right now most of my money is tied up in divorce costs and starting my business.

Honestly, while I *love* what I do, the starving artists cliche is a cliche for a reason. Ends are hard to make meet sometimes, and if my body allowed me to do different, better paying work, I absolutely would. Unfortunately, for now, this is what I’ve got.

While I really dislike having to ask for help, the truth is, I kinda need it right now. I’m not looking for anything fancy, a standard office chair with arm rests is pretty much all I’m after. Doing some research, I’ve found a basic model that costs £110 and has pretty fast shipping so I can get to work more on my business as quickly as possible!

Any help you could give would be massively appreciated and honestly, thank you for even taking the time to read this far. It’s been a tough year, but one filled with amazing opportunities and new friends, and all I’m hoping to do is just continue to try and make people smile with my silly doodles and smol buildings. Just hopefully a little more comfortably.

Thanks again. I appreciate you. And remember: Hydrate. Self care. Be kind. Much love, always <3
