They will make their Moving for Life Your Way evidence based home exercise programs free to view - globally.
Home quarantine and social distancing techniques are being used worldwide to contain the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). This means that older people will be housebound and not participating in their usual community-based activities: socialising, sport, recreation, gym and exercise classes.
Withdrawing from physical activity has immediate negative effects on people's mental and physical health. In fact, lack of use quickly causes muscle strength to decrease. Within 48 hours muscle mass diminishes 1 – 3% each day.
Following the outbreak of the SARS virus, in response to the issues affecting older people, Active Ageing Australia was commissioned to research, develop a book to support older people to safely exercise at home.
The research showed that exercising at home is a safe, effective, low cost and convenient alternative way to maintain muscle mass, fitness and strength.
Active Ageing Australia is proposing that their home exercise book is developed into a video to allow for worldwide distribution.
