Help support F12 People's Kitchen

The F12 People’s Kitchen (F12PK) is led by a group of unemployed service-industry workers in South Minneapolis. We are a queer, trans, non-binary, multi-racial collective. We believe in the power of food to gather people together emotionally and politically. Preparing and serving food is not just an act of solidarity to meet basic human needs, but a model for mutual aid and building community.

Our kitchen is committed to the abolitionist struggle, which means food sovereignty and nutritious meals freely available to all. Born in the midst of the world-changing Minneapolis Uprising, F12 People’s kitchen fully supports all working-class movements for Black liberation.

Currently, we provide 2,400 meals a week to the Powderhorn Sanctuary. 400 meals a day, six days a week.  We are unable to continue serving the community if we do not receive more funding by July 21!

There are two parts to our goal of $35,400. Food costs and rent for the building. This would support us through the end of August.

Currently, we are able to do each meal for $1. Therefore, our weekly budget is $2400. We have space, time and capacity to increase the amount of meals and our level of outreach, but the current goal specified meets our needs per week through the end of August. A stronger, more secure financial infrastructure would ideally support expanding delivery to camps for unsheltered people, working with other groups that are also doing that work.

In addition, we need to meet our $10,000 rent for the commercial kitchen we are operating out of. This is a fraction of the typical cost of leasing a for-profit commercial kitchen, due to our strong relationship with the kitchen owners, and their commitment to this project. We will backpay rent owed for June and July ($11,000) and pay our August rent in full.  Maintaining this relationship will allow us to work towards building F12PK into a long term resource for the community.

Our goal is to continue to answer the growing demand for food justice in our city. The F12 People’s Kitchen has been a proven model for effective, community-driven mutual aid to combat food insecurity and racially-based injustice in South Minneapolis. Your contribution at this point in our process has the potential to continue and expand our work to feed the most vulnerable members of our community
