Help support Dustin Boydell

Life can change in an instant. That’s what happened to Dustin Boydell on Feb 14, 2018.

He was going on with his day to day life when a sore back that felt like a pinched nerve showed up on Feb 9. After two trips to two different chiropractors and two different hospitals, Dustin was informed that he had an abscess infection in the L3-L4 area of his spine. After losing control of his body from the waist down on Feb 14 Dustin was rushed to Vancouver General Hospital for emergency surgery to remove the abscess from the spine.

Unfortunately, the infection had spread to his blood, muscles and slightly started to build in his lungs and he was told he would need 6 weeks of heavy IV antibiotic therapy and that the feeling in his legs could take months to return or possibly not return at all. While both surgeons who operated on Dustin are optimistic a full recovery is possible it is going to take quite some time to know for sure.

On Feb 22nd, Dustin was moved to the GF Strong Rehabilitation Centre to start an 8 week or more intensive rehab program.  Dustin is still on aggressive antibiotics to fight his infection and will be until the end of March. We all are praying for Dustin to walk out of GF Strong but there is no way of knowing how far he will be able to recover.  What we do know that his life was forever changed on Feb 14 2018.  Brittany, Dustin’s wife has now returned to work from being on maternity leave, while also keeping life sorted out for Brook, their 11 year old daughter, and Oliver, their 1 year old son.

I am setting up this go-fund-me to help them through this very difficult time, and the money is to help take the pressure off the family and to give Dustin the support he needs.  In the event he is unable to walk after his rehabilitation is complete he will need assistance purchasing a wheelchair and renovating a home that is handi-accessible.  MSP does not cover wheelchairs as they deem them not medically necessary pieces of equipment, so the funds would be an immense help if that in fact happens.

As most people know Dustin and his parents Linda and Ned Boydell were born and raised in Hope B.C. I thank everyone for the love and support that you will be sending all of the Boydells. Updates will be provided as Dustin progresses. Dustin has an amazing positive attitude and is working hard to get his legs back to normal.

Any funds that are not used for Dustin's recovery will be held in trust and donated back to GF Strong.

April 11 2018
Dustin is making great progress on his recover at GF Strong. He was scheduled to be discharged on April 19 however his medical team thinks its best for Dustin to stay at GF Strong until May 10 2018. The donations that have been received will be put towards a wheel chair and physiotherapy when Dustin in discharged and any amount that is left Dustin would like to donated it to GF Strong.  Dustin's sister Shawna Dutschek will be in charge of all the donations.  I would like to thank everyone that has donated.
