Stolac is a scenic town nestled in Bosnia and Herzegovina, however, it has a large population of underprivileged people, and our local environment is being threatened due to the lack of recycling facilities available. We have developed an innovative initiative to address the needs of our local community, but we need your help to scale up our efforts. 

Our idea is simple. People from underprivileged backgrounds collect their cans, plastic and glass bottles and they are paid a rate of €0.10 ($0.11) per bottle. This is paid to them in the form of credit to use in grocery stores where they can buy anything they need except cigarettes and alcohol. <img src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/80562803_1717629992836807_r.jpg" width="100%" media_type="3" alt="80562803_1717629992836807_r.jpg" /> For example: If someone gives us 1000 bottles, we provide them with $110 worth of store credit. This amount is enough to feed a family of 8 for 3 or 4 days.  In less than one month we’ve managed to collect 30,000 bottles and provided over €3000 ($3264) towards credit for people from underprivileged backgrounds.  So far, we have been using our savings to support this initiative, but we are aiming to increase the number of bottles and cans we collect and the amount of credit we can give out to people who are in need.  There is no recycling in Bosnia and Herzegovina, but there is a widespread syndrome of overreliance on humanitarian aid. This initiative will address issues Stolac is facing such as begging, minimizing environmental damage, and raising awareness, while also advocating for politicians to act.  Demir Mahmutćehajić, a lifelong human rights activist is leading this initiative. He’s lived in Stolac for the last 13 years and has focused his activism on helping destitute and oppressed communities. He has also led conservation efforts and has taken care of stray animals in the region.  This is a long-term activity and through this, we seek to fill this gap and make a positive impact on our local community and environment.  Transparency
