Hello! We are Emmacate Sauer and Antonina DiValentin (AKA Sour Valentine) the producers and directors of hello from the children of planet Earth, a new work premiering in Chicago’s Rhino Fest this September.
hello from the children of the planet Earth is a bleak yet tender work of physical theater exploring humanity's future in the cosmos. Set in the not-so-distant future, the piece follows six crew members navigating the bodily effects of space travel as they seek out a near-mythological fuel source. A daring collage about community support during crisis and the limits of the human body, this work invites us to consider the enduring nature of the human spirit against the hostility of space.
As we continue to research and devise this work we are asking ourselves: What brought us here? Are we meant to live amongst the stars? What can the yet-impossible predicament of these cosmonauts teach us about our own relationships in a time of collapse?
We believe in the power of speculative fiction to hold up a mirror to present day anxieties by pushing them to their extremes. And we believe in experimental theater & dance as essential places for communion and collective dreaming.
