(ENGLISH BELOW) Hola! Me llamo Christy y conocí a Supeno durante un viaje a Indonesia. Visitaba el Monte Ijen, donde Supeno trabajaba como minero de azufre. Yo iba sola y, al verme descansando, Supeno se paró a saludarme. Me acompañó y cuidó todo el camino, mientras me contaba su historia. Llevaba trabajando en las minas de azufre 15 años. Todos los días caminaba 46 km en chanclas, durante 8 de los cuales carga con entre 80 y 90 kg de azufre a la espalda. No podía permitirse una máscara de gas, pese a que pasaba horas rodeadas de gases muy tóxicos. Supeno perdió su trabajo cuando empezó la pandemia del COVID19. Todos los meses le ayudamos un poco, ya que en el pueblo donde vive prácticamente no hay trabajo aparte del que daba la mina de azufre (en unas condiciones terribles). Hoy me ha escrito para decirme que su mujer esta embarazada, y dará a luz en un par de semanas aproximadamente. Está muy preocupado porque no tiene suficiente dinero para pagar la ayuda médica con el parto (unos 200 euros). Si pudierais ayudarnos con una pequeña donación sería increíble. Muchas gracias!
Hi! I´m Christy and I met Supeno when traveling in Indonesia. I was visiting Mount Ijen, where Supeno worked as a sulphur miner. I was alone and when Supeno saw me resting he stopped to say hi. He walked with me the whole way, taking great care of me and telling me his story. He has been working in the sulphur mines for 15 year. Every day he walked for 46 km in flip flops, 8 of which he carried between 80 and 90 kg of sulphur. He could not afford a gas mask, even though the gases are terribly toxic. Supeno lost his job when the COVID19 pandemic began. Every month we help him and his family out a bit, as the village where he lives has practically no jobs except those that the sulphur mine gave (in terrible conditions). Today he sent me a message to tell me his wife is pregnant, and is due in a couple of weeks. He is very worried because he does not have enough money to get medical help during the birth (around 200 euros). If you could give us a hand it would be incredible. Thank you !
