Help Our Student Finalists Attend STEM Competition

Tax deductible
Want to further the STEM opportunities for a talented group of students? We, the students and teachers of Alliance Burton Tech, are raising money to send nine incredibly hard working students from South Los Angeles to the finalist stage of the Clean Tech Competition in New York City.

Out of 550 teams who submitted projects to the international Clean Tech Competition  put forth by the Center for Science Teaching and Learning, 20 teams made it the finalist round.  Three of those teams come from Ms. Garcia's incredibly talented group of seniors at Alliance Judy Burton Technology Academy High School ! This is the first time in our school's history that students have made it to the finalist round, and we are incredibly proud and excited for this opportunity.

Our students will be competing against teams from around the world and presenting their projects and prototypes in front of a panel of experts in the hopes of coming home with up to $10,000 and the continued support from a STEM professional.

More information about the competition:
For the past 6 years, 12th graders enrolled in our STEM course complete a project-based learning experience called the Clean Tech Competition. The Clean Tech Competition is a unique, worldwide research and design challenge for pre-college youth. The program encourages scientific understanding of real-world issues and the integration of environmentally responsible energy sources.  Students begin working on their projects and research and January and submit a final 15 page paper in April. We have never in our school's history had any team make it to the finalist round, let alone THREE teams.  The finals competition is to take place July 17, 2019 at the Cooper Union in Manhattan, NY.

However, our nine students won't be able to go to the competition if we do not receive adequate funding, which is why we're reaching out to you! Our teams need financial support for travel to/from New York City and for accommodations.  If our students cannot make it to the competition, they forfeit the right to compete against teams from around the world, and the opportunity to win $10,000.

Any donation will make an impact and will go towards a truly deserving group of stellar students.  We appreciate your support!
