About a month ago while wife was driving home from work and found this dog staggering down the middle of the road. He was so malnourished he was barely able to stand upright. She brought him home with the intention of getting him to a local shelter. However, all those efforts failed, since all our local shelters are at capacity and already over extended on their resources.

So we’ve been taking care of him. His first bath was a sad sight. The fleas were everywhere and the bath water turned blood red. Fortunately he is now flea free.

His nails were so over grown they affected how he walked. We’ve been slowly trimming them back.

Every meal he eats like he hasn’t eaten is a month. We bought a special bowl to slow down his eating.

Last week my wife took him to the vet and discovered he has heart worms. All told, his treatments will run over $1,000. This includes heart worm, neutering, flea treatments, shots and dewormer.

We already have 4 dogs and financially we’re not planning to take in another. But he’s such a good boy. We can’t possibly turn him back on the street.

Oh, and we’ve given him a name - St. Ray. It started as a joke I made since St. Ray spells “Stray”, but then we looked up St. Ray and discovered his Feast Day is August 31st, which is the day my wife found him!!!
