This past year has been the hardest of my life. In just eight months, I lost three parents, including my father Charlie, who passed away two days before my birthday. The grief has been overwhelming, leading to days-long panic attacks, severe memory loss, and my ADHD symptoms becoming much worse. My doctor ordered me to stop working and driving for my own safety, but my job in transportation depended on my ability to drive. I had already used all my leave to care for my dying fathers and attend funerals, so I had to rely on FMLA. My doctor helped me submit the paperwork, but my employer claimed they never received it. Without contacting me, they marked me as a no-call, no-show for ten days and terminated my employment.

 Since then, I’ve been struggling to get by. My savings are gone, and I’ve lost my health insurance. Every doctor’s appointment and medication check is now an out-of-pocket expense, and I’m still working with my doctors to find the right treatment so I can get back on my feet. The process is slow, and each medication trial takes a month. I could be unable to work for another three months, and I’m terrified of what might happen in the meantime.

 I have always played the role of father and breadwinner in my household. Helping me live through this wouldn’t just be for me—it would be saving a family. I know times are tough for everyone, and whatever you decide, I want you to know that I care about you and will always do my best to support my community. We all win when neighbors come together.
