Help Steven Recover After a Tragic Motorcycle Accident

On June 7, 2025, our brother Steven was hit by a truck in a violent, life-threatening motorcycle accident. He had just gotten off work, and was only four minutes from home—when an uninsured drunk driver, headed in the opposite direction, jumped a 10-foot median to get to a bar and ran Steven over. He had no time to react.

“He didn’t even slow down or stop.” — Steven

The impact was violent and life-threatening. It’s a miracle he survived.
---

The crash left Steven with devastating injuries, including:

Fractured left femur, fibula, and tibia
→ Rods surgically installed in the femur and tibia
→ Full reconstruction of the fibula with rods and plates
→ Fortunately, the doctors were able to save his left leg.
→ Unfortunately, the femur remains severely separated, so healing will take longer than expected.

Torn left rotator cuff

Left shoulder dislocation

Fractured radius and ulna, with bone protruding from the arm
→ Full reconstruction of the right forearm with a plate connecting the radius and ulna

Spinal trauma: burst fracture of the L4 lumbar vertebrae

Five fractured ribs on the left side with pulmonary contusion (bruised lung) and a collapsed lung

Multiple hematomas, extensive bruising, and deep soft tissue injuries

Open gashes and tire marks on both legs

Internal injuries, requiring 5 emergency blood transfusions in the ICU
→ Steven spent a full week in the ICU while doctors worked to stop the internal bleeding.

Chronic pain, neuropathic pain, and limited mobility

Post-traumatic musculoskeletal impairment

“Fortunately I’m out of ICU, off oxygen, and pushing to have a full recovery. I’m able to put weight on my right leg and right elbow, and I’m hoping to have more restrictions lifted soon. The doctors were able to save my left leg, and I’m looking forward to being able to start putting weight on it in the next 8 months to learn to walk again. No more wheelchair. No more hopping around on one leg to go to the bathroom—lol.” — Steven

A Fighter, and a Survivor

Steven is fiercely independent, funny, and resilient—but even the strongest people need help sometimes.

The crash left him with multiple traumatic injuries requiring multiple surgeries and an extended hospital stay in the ICU. He received five emergency blood transfusions, was placed on 3 liters of oxygen, and is now on a long, difficult path to recovery.

Multiple Surgeries—and More to Come
Steven has already undergone major trauma surgery:

Rods placed in the femur, fibula, and tibia
Plate on the fibula
Plate connecting the radius and ulna in his arm
Internal injuries, requiring 5 emergency blood transfusions in the ICU

Unfortunately, his femur is still severely separated, so healing will take longer than expected.

On the positive side, Steven was wearing full riding gear, including a DOT-certified helmet, so he sustained no damage to his head or neck.

What He Needs

He’s now using adaptive equipment daily:

Steven is home now, using a wheelchair and adaptive equipment including a hemi-walker with crutch attachment for elbow support. He’ll require months of therapy, medical care, and living assistance before he can begin to walk again—possibly longer due to the severity of the separation in his femur.

“I still have limited movement of my hands and fingers, but I’m hoping to have more limitations lifted soon. I can’t twist my wrist or put any weight on it yet, but I’m figuring things out. My legs still have tire-mark gashes, and I see a wound care specialist.” — Steven

His strength, humor, and determination continue to amaze us.

“Staying positive and keeping good spirits is important for my road to recovery.” — Steven

A Positive Update from Steven

“In order to go home, I had to be able to transfer myself in and out of the wheelchair using only my right leg—my left leg had to stay floating, two inches off the ground, with no weight on it at all. At first, I used two yoga blocks under my elbow to help push up. Then I got it down to one. Now I can stand up from a seated position using just one leg—no blocks at all. Try that!”

Why We’re Asking for Help

Even with insurance, the out-of-pocket costs are immense.
We’re doing everything we can as a family, but we can’t do this alone.

Your donation—no matter how small—will help with:

Home modifications for accessibility
Medical bills and rehabilitation
Physical therapy and mobility equipment
Transportation to appointments
Living expenses while he recovers

As Steven’s sister, it’s painful to watch someone you love suffer through something so life-changing. We’ve seen the pain he’s in, but we’ve also seen his strength.

Let’s rally around Steven and show him he’s not alone.
Let’s help him focus on healing—not survival.
