Help Steven Leflore Recover!
On August 10, 2018, Steven came by to a project near and dear to my heart to see if he could help out for a little while. The project included installing a new rubber roof. At the time he was on call as the plumber for a company which had hired him only weeks before. In his previous employment at the Meher Spiritual Center, he had lots of experience on roofs. This one had a very slight pitch. Only on the roof for a couple minutes, Steven caught his foot under a protective tarp as soon as he got there and was twisted around and sent off the roof. He landed partially on a brick landing with an iron railing. He was gravely injured:
· a crack at the base of his skull
· broken collar bone
· three broken ribs
· two fractured vertebrae
Steven’s neck was left so fragile that he has to wear a stiff support collar for three months. If he doesn’t, his neck is at risk of breaking, with possible dire consequences. He also has to wear a stiff back brace. All this is on top of a fairly recent diagnosis of lupus and divorce proceedings underway at the same time.
Today is his discharge day from hospital rehab, largely because insurance will not cover further residential rehab. Steven does not know when he can work again and is unable to drive himself. He already rented a hospital bed, which he needs at home, and there will be a great deal of further expense not covered by insurance, aside from the usual basic bills. He is a bigger than life guy with a wonderful attitude and a lot of gratitude that he is alive and not paralyzed.
I know Steven well, and we are very close. He is a remarkably diligent and motivated guy, who is always ready to be helpful in different ways. He makes a lot of effort to live in a spirit of joy, generosity and integrity.
Please support his recovery and help him get back on his feet.
