Help Spike get his treatments

Hi, I'm Miranda. In November 2020 my friend and I came across a dog from the Maricopa animal care and control, when reading the details it explained that he was not very friendly with other dogs and he had quite a few health concerns. He lived most of his life as a street dog so he was not well looked after. Spike was categorized as a hermaphrodite, has chronic UTI's because of his anatomy which causes him to not be able to control his bladder all the time.

We knew it would be a big job to take care of him but we also knew that not many people would be jumping at the chance to adopt him. After meeting Spike (then Herman) we really felt for him. He is such a sweet dog, it took a few minutes but he was willing to come up to sniff us, let us pet him a little bit. He is very food motivated so that helped a lot. We adopted him the next day.

Two weeks after having Spike, he had a little but of a cough so I decided to take him to the vet. While there I informed them of everything going on and my concerns with his anatomy. They helped with the current UTI he was dealing with but suggested we also see a specialist. I took him to the specialist and it turned out to be more than we had imagined.

Spike needs a few things. Either an ultrasound or a CT scan which will involve anesthesia. This poses a little concern since he does have a slight heart murmur but nothing too concerning. We were advised by the specialist that he CT scan is the best option as he needs to be checked for ovaries, they need to check the health of his bladder, and also his urethra. The CT scan and everything involved comes to about $1,300. Of course we would love to be able to get the procedures that could help him live more comfortably but we don't have that kind of money. Included in the CT price will be urine cultures so that we can be sure he is on the correct antibiotics. The CT will also determine if surgery is an option to relocate the urethra then preventing the UTI's. I am asking for more than the CT cost in hopes that surgery may be an option and he won't deal with these issues for the rest of his life.

Any money that does not get used for Spike's medical bills will be donated to the shelter we adopted him from. It's only right since they were able to get him off the streets and into a good home.

I hope this made you fall in love with Spike like we did. If you can please donate or share the fundraiser. We appreciate any help at all.
