Help sophie afford gender affirming surgery
Donation protected
My name is Sophie! I'm a 33 year trans woman. I help run transadvice.org and volunteer for another trans led non-profit as well. I've spent most of my adult life trying to help where I can; which is sadly less than I'd like due to chronic health issues.
I've always found a lot of joy in helping others, enough to keep me doing it for 13 years. However in recent years my mental health has been eroding away around me, including my ability to help others. I just struggle to see a future, every day I get out of bed with the crushing knowledge that I can't see a way to ever afford my gender affirming surgery.
I always felt that even if I couldn't have what I wanted, or needed then I could help others... but I think its my time to try and ask for help.
I'm barely scraping by on disability. Due to a genetic disorder affecting my immune system I had to give up a lot in life, I really hope this isn't one more. It would be more than I could take. While the meds do help keep me alive and healthy, they have seriously crippling side effects. After many years of trying my care team and I have assessed that it would be impossible to maintain a job.
It's just been clear for a while that I'm never going to be able to get surgery unless I listen to my friends, and learn to ask for help. They've been encouraging me for a long while, but it still feels like an impossibly big ask. I don't know if it'll make a difference in the end but I'm desperate and I have no other options left than to ask for the kindness of strangers.
Please if you could afford to help, then I'd appreciate it more than words could express! Every dollar counts.
